The Dance Video Collection (DVC) is the brain child of Marc Generoso. This anthology series re-adapted live stage performances into short dance films using cinematic lighting, practical sets, and professional film practices and techniques. Marc co-produced, written, directed, and choreographed all 33 films between 2010 and 2018.

Project & Objectives

The DVC was an ambitious film project, unprecedented for the city of Nanaimo, BC. With a vast and complex process, curating the necessary information into a well-crafted brochure was vital for sponsors and investors to grasp the nature of this project in a digestible way.

This sponsorship brochure was designed to help raise $20,000 in capital from neighbouring businesses and supporters for the necessary resources to complete this project from start to finish.

Reflection

The DVC Sponsorship Information Brochure pre-dates my writing career, but I included it my portfolio because even back then, I was writing with my audience in mind.

I kept the front panel dynamic and simple to entice the reader to open the brochure. The back panel explained the DVC project as a whole with a website to follow for more information.

The inside flap panels summarized the 10 short films that year and the different sponsorship tiers available. It called for more content than copy as the community had already green-lit the project. The brochure acted as a tool to show businesses and supporters within the community how their contributions would be invested in their youth by featuring them in the brochure itself.

Finally, the innermost panels talked about the producer, director, choreographer, and writer of the DVC project with social proof from stakeholders who have participated in past iterations of the project.

The layout, order, and flow were designed to be respectful of the readers’ time by conveying concise and necessary information.

“Marc’s clear understanding of his audience played a key role in green-lighting our ambitious film project. His empathetic approach and communication simplified intricate ideas for our board directors and stakeholders to understand and get behind.”

The brochure did its job in raising $20,000 of capital for this project. All 10 short dance films were filmed, edited, and completed as advertised. A fourth and final DVC project was green lit in 2017, shot and completed the following year. Here is the DVC 2018 Trailer featuring all 33 films from the entire Dance Video Collection.
